More about the French Department
Early Years and Junior School: The emphasis in Junior School is on making language accessible and fun. This is achieved through the use of media, games, and visual stimuli. Topic areas include such things as numbers, colours, food, and animals.
Senior School: In Years 3 - 6 the emphasis is on verbal communication, with lots of speaking and listening-based tasks. As pupils move through Years 5 - 6, and into Years 7 and 8, literacy tasks, in support of oral work, are introduced. Cultural awareness is promoted at every opportunity.
Trips: The school regularly organises both day and residential trips to French-speaking countries, enabling opportunities for pupils to participate in linguistic and cross-curricular activities. Past visits have included day trips to Boulogne and week-long excursions to Belgium and Strasbourg.
