Geography Department
Head of Department: Ms Jane Anderson
Geography provokes and answers questions about the natural and man-made worlds. Through their studies, pupils encounter different societies and cultures, gaining an understanding of the interdependence of the global community.
The curriculum includes environmental and sustainable development studies, which provide an important link between the natural and social sciences. Many of the topic areas within the syllabus help to prepare pupils for adult life. Life skills such as map and graph reading are developed. Analytical thinking is fostered through the investigation of multi-dimensional issues.
The syllabus uses different scales of enquiry, allowing pupils to view topics from a range of perspectives. Some of the more important strands of learning reoccur across the year groups, allowing pupils to build on existing knowledge and gain greater levels of insight as they mature.
