Parents Association - HPPA

The Hendon Preparatory Parents’ Association (HPPA) is the School's parents' association.  Every current parent is automatically a member of the HPPA and is welcome (and encouraged) to become involved in its activities.

The primary purposes of the HPPA are:

  • to contribute positively to the School community
  • to engage parents socially, with the main focuses being the child, parent and the School
  • to actively seek to raise the external profile of the school and to contribute to a positive atmosphere within the School
  • to raise funds for local and international charities throughout the year (as well as, from time to time, and in special circumstances, for the School and its students).

The Association is a social group and does not involve itself in the running of the school in any way.

The HPPA is a great way to meet other parents.  The school is justifiably proud of its “family” ethos and the HPPA reflects this spirit, bringing together parents from throughout the school in a social and friendly setting.  This spirit is embodied in the Association’s Guiding Principles, which are as follows:

  1. We wish to include participation from all our members.  We welcome all contributions (however small) and will consider the ideas of all members, irrespective of the level of commitment members are able to make.
  2. We are open to new ideas and new ways of doing things.
  3. We tailor the activities we offer in accordance with available resources.
  4. Although it’s important to get things done, we also aim to have some fun.

The main events of the Association are:

  • Regular weekly meetings.  These are open to all parents and are usually held in a coffee bar and mix socialising with discussion and planning of the day-to-day running of the Association.  (There are also occasionally social evening meetings in a pub.)
  • Social/fundraising events throughout the year. These include events such as summer and winter school fairs, a Halloween party, and an International Day, as well as parent-teacher social events, including an annual supper quiz, bowling evenings, and more.

Upcoming HPPA events are announced in the weekly School newsletter, through posters at School, and through the class representatives.  They are also posted on the Association’s Facebook page which is restricted to the School’s parents only.  To join the Facebook Group and access the HPPA page, please email Eva Somani at eva_zavodna@hotmail.com to request access.

The Association is run by an elected Committee of parents, with help from parent class representatives and many regular and occasional parent volunteers, and is governed by a Constitution, which can be viewed by any parent by contacting a member of the Committee.

There are many ways that you can become involved in the HPPA.  These include:

  • Enjoying the activities offered by coming to any of the weekly meetings and/or coming to the special events held throughout the year.
  • Offering to volunteer in the preparation or running of any of the events, or in the general running of the association.
  • Offering to become a representative for your child’s/children’s class/es
  • Becoming a member of the Committee.

The HPPA Committee for 2010-11 is comprised of the following members:

Zach Segal (Chair)

Howard Archer (Treasurer)

Eva Somani (Deputy Chair)

Sarah Segal (Secretary)

Helen Myers (Events Co-ordinator)

Sara Kuehnrich (General Member)

Amanda Sharp  (Publicity & Marketing Co-ordinator)

The HPPA seeks to involve as many parents as possible and is always looking for volunteers to help with the many activities it organizes.  Time contribution of many parents, however small, helps ensure the number, variety, and success of the events we organise.

If you are interested in getting involved in any way, wish to find out more about ways to help, or have any questions whatsoever about the HPPA, please contact the Deputy Chair Eva Somani at eva_zavodna@hotmail.com or any of the other Committee members.

On behalf of the whole Committee, welcome to the HPPA.  We hope to see as many of you as possible at our upcoming events.

Zach Segal, HPPA Chair
