Maths at home

Every pupil learns mathematics from their earliest days in the home. We encourage parents to continue modelling the importance of maths in daily life by involving their children in real-life activities, such as working out the change whilst shopping; weighing and counting cooking ingredients; and using a variety of different clocks to tell the time. As pupils move up into Year 3 and beyond, parental support for learning times tables is particularly helpful.

Whilst ensuring that our pupils develop mathematical skills and knowledge, we also convey the understanding that mathematics IS FUN! Our pupils enjoy participating in national competitions run by the Mathematical Association and The UK Mathematics Trust on an annual basis. Maths can stimulate moments of pleasure and wonder when a pupil solves a problem for the first time, discovers a more elegant solution to the problem, or suddenly sees hidden connections.
