More about the Music Department

3. Developing musicianship

Some pupils select to take private music tuition from one of our peripatetic music teachers. The range on offer currently includes violin, piano, voice, guitar, drums, flute, saxophone, cello and recorder.

Pupils may be entered for the Guildhall or Associated Board grade examinations and those who have reached a high level of musicianship are encouraged to apply for scholarships. These include scholarships to senior schools at 11+ for girls and 13+ for boys. In addition, recommended pupils may be entered for the music component of the annual Hendon Preparatory School scholarships.

Chamber music ensembles, led by Miss Asirwatham, meet and rehearse regularly. These include The String Group, The Saxophone Group, The School Choir, The Chamber Choir, The Recorder Group, The Boomwhackers Club and The Handbell Group.

Private Music Tuition

A wide range of instruments are taught by peripatetic music teachers who offer individual tuition at an additional fee. The contractual agreement is between parents and individual music teachers, as payment is made directly to them.
