Roman artefacts uncovered!

Posted on 09 February 2012

On a very exciting day (8th February), Year five and six celebrated a happy day for Shiori Mizukami (birthday) by going to the Museum of London...

Hendon Central is where we walked to start with. From there, we got the train to Moorgate station.  From there we walked to the Museum of London, seeing as we did so, part of the old Roman wall.

When we arrived at the Museum, we first went and had lunch. Very soon, we walked into a “London before London” gallery. In other words, before the Romans. We next went to a very special workshop. Not only did we see them, we held REAL Roman Artefacts!!!! Roof tiles to hairpins, and not forgetting writing pens and wax tablets!!

Then we went back to the gallery to enjoy a time of interesting and fun facts. Soon, we had a one – in – a – lifetime experience. Sitting in a Anglo-Saxon house with Mr Musetti spilling a scary yet enjoyable beginning to the story Beowulf!

We would all like to thank Mr Gorasia, Miss Berens and of course, Mr Musetti!

Just before Half term started Year 5 and 6 went the brilliant Museum of London!!!

When we got there we firstly had lunch and then we went into a gallery which showed us how we developed over time. We saw animal bones and other parts of animals. We saw Roman, Anglo-Saxon and other era’s coins and other props.

Then we went into a workshop were we actually got to touch Roman props which were used by the Romans!! We saw a strigal which is a Roman prop used in Roman baths. Slaves would rub oil on to their master’s body then scrape the dead skin off. Luckily in a Latin lesson we learnt about Roman baths and with our knowledge we got everything correct.

This was a brilliant trip which was both fun and educational which everyone enjoyed.
