Reception - further information
As the year progresses, most children will move from forming letters through to writing words and simple sentences.
An understanding of number, shape, and space are is built up through a mixture of games, craft and other activities. Counting games seamlessly become investigations of concepts such as 'more than' and 'less than'. Children learn to develop methods for solving problems and to understand the language of shape and size.
Science is taught in an exploratory manner, so as to stimulate curiosity and an enquiring approach. The children enjoy learning about living things and their environments, as well as exploring different materials in our man-made world.
The children also spend thirty minutes every week in our ICT lab, where they get an opportunity to participate in computer activities.
Coached swimming sessions, at Poolside Manor in Finchley, provide an opportunity for children to develop into strong swimmers. Coached gymnastic sessions at Hendon Leisure Centre aid in developing coordination, balance and stamina.
