Year 2
Year 2 is typically a busy, enjoyable year, during which children continue to be stimulated and challenged. They are now at the top of the junior department and are expected to show a high level of courtesy and responsibility. They will be consolidating their understanding of the benefits of cooperation and the need to respect others, as well as realising the importance of a positive attitude and application to their studies.
Pupils settle into more formal learning routines, with daily literacy and numeracy lessons. Many subjects continue to be cross-curricular. For example, a history topic on 'The Ancient Egyptians' has links with a science topic on 'Materials'. Maths and art are linked through the investigation of patterns and shapes. Art will link to science when we visit the Tate Modern to find out about materials used in sculpture.
Literacy studies sees the development of creative writing, maximising the pupils' growing written vocabulary. They continue to enjoy solving real-life maths problems such as measuring, and continuing to work with money. 'Barnaby Bear' becomes a vehicle for travel exploration and diary keeping, whilst studying Florence Nightingale's work and life develops an understanding of historical context.
