Celebrating the Year of the Pig

Tuesday was Chinese New Year and the beginning of the year of the Pig.

More than a billion people around the word celebrated the New Year, including pupils at Hendon Prep.

The Nursery children had a fun packed day, they started by painting their New Year cards with red and gold paint to bring good luck and they everyone decorated an individual piece of collage to make a whole class dragon.  Later the children listened to Chinese drum music and then recreated the famous dragon dance using sheets of material to make their ‘dragon’. Finally they finished off a very eventful day by tasting some noodles.

3C decorated Chinese face masks which they worn with pride.

Year 6 explored fun facts about the Chinese New Year and created a poster representing what they had learnt.

1W made Chinese lanterns and information posters about Eastern and Western dragons. They also learnt to say Happy New Year in Chinese and sang a Chinese song for the New Year.
