At Hendon Prep, we are proud to be a traditional prep school with an outstanding record of preparing pupils for the 11+ and entry to highly sought‑after senior schools. Academic excellence, outstanding teaching and individual support remain at the heart of everything we do, and our Year 6 pupils consistently excel in the 11+, securing offers from a wide range of leading independent schools.
Alongside this strong 11+ provision, we recognise that families value choice. For those who decide that the 11+ route is not the right pathway for their child, we also offer a senior transfer option to Mount House School, part of the Blenheim Schools Group.
Blenheim Schools Senior Pathway
The Blenheim Schools Senior Pathway provides a smooth and natural transition from Hendon Prep to Mount House School, built on shared values, high expectations and a nurturing ethos and academic excellence. This ensures continuity for pupils who thrive best in a through‑school environment, while keeping the process clear, supportive and stress‑free for families.
Importantly, this pathway enhances what we offer at Hendon Prep rather than defining it. Families truly benefit from the best of both worlds:
• a rigorous, traditional prep school education with focused 11+ preparation for top schools, and
• a high‑quality continuation pathway offering reassurance, flexibility and choice at age 11.
Throughout both pathways, we place the wellbeing of each individual child at the centre of our approach, carefully guiding pupils and families to identify the senior school environment in which they will flourish most and achieve their full potential.
Preparation for the 11+ begins in Year 1 and is carefully scaffolded over the years, ensuring that by the time pupils sit the examinations in Year 6, they are confident, capable and well prepared. Pupils are taught not only to acquire knowledge, but to apply it effectively in both examination papers and interviews. They also develop strong exam technique through termly ISEB (Independent School Examination Board) assessments from Year 3 in the core subjects, alongside a range of annual online assessments.
Year 1
Spanish added to Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), in addition to French, for a global perspective and depth of language learning.
Year 2
Verbal & Non-Verbal reasoning added to the curriculum for a scaffolded approach to exam prep.
Year 3
Specialist subject teaching introduced for all subjects for breadth and depth of learning. Drama lessons added to underpin confidence.
Year 4
Embed and consolidate key skills needed for a successful 11+ academic jump.
Year 5
Focussed 11+ Prep, including additional after school Prep Club. Parent consultations and focus on 11+ papers and exam technique.
Year 6
Regular practice papers, after school prep club and interview practice.

Many parents ask about Senior schools and where our children move on to
This is actually quite a complex answer as year on year there are changes in parent aspiration, choice, family need and how society is changing. Some years we have a number of pupils who apply for State Selective schools – some years we have none. We don't have one or two 'feeder schools', we cater to as many schools as our families wish to make applications to each year.
Finance and individual family circumstances, as well as 'best fit' for the child all play a part in selecting the next step. This is why at Hendon Prep we work with each family and offer guidance and support to ensure every child has a school that they will flourish in and most importantly be happy at - whether this is at State, State Selective or an Independent Senior School.
We are extremely grateful to Hendon Prep for their support of our admissions process over the past 2 years. By hosting the ISEB Common Pre-Test at their school they enabled their students to sit the test in a familiar and convenient environment. We are delighted that two of their pupils will be joining us in September!
