Starting your child's education
Combining a high-quality educational experience with an unparalleled level of care and support, our outstanding Reception class is the ideal way to ease your child into the exciting world of learning.
In the September after children turn 4, they progress from Preschool into our Reception Class. We also welcome many new children to Hendon Prep at this point.
In Reception children still follow our unique EYFS PLUS Curriculum, based on the national Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, as they work towards the four Early Years Goals, however at this stage we introduce a more structured school day.
The Reception Class offers a supportive and fun bridge between Preschool and the more formal educational experience enjoyed from Year 1.

OUR APPROACH
Learning through play
Reception is the start of formal education in England, however emphasis is still on learning through play at this stage.
Our dynamic EYFS PLUS curriculum is enriched by subject specialist teaching in French, Art and Design, Sport, P.E, and Music. These areas of learning run parallel with the expert teaching from our Early Years trained Reception Teachers, with a strong focus in numeracy and literacy.
The range of ability amongst the children will continue to be quite broad at this stage, therefore, a high level of differentiation is used across the curriculum to ensure that all pupils are being appropriately challenged.
A DAY IN RECEPTION
A personalised approach
We have a truly personalised approach to teaching and learning at Hendon Prep, ensuring our children are challenged every day in order to progress and meet their own unique potential.
We deliver daily focussed sessions in numeracy and literacy in the Reception class, alongside specialist subject teaching in Art and Design, Music, French, P.E. and Sports.
Our children have opportunities to explore, discover and learn in our wonderful outdoor spaces and we have a strong focus on health and wellbeing which is enhanced through circle time, assemblies, yoga and dance sessions.
We encourage creative thought and critical investigation in a stimulating and supporting environment to develop a life-long love of learning in all our children.
