Creative Arts & Music

Art, Music and Drama are essential parts of life at Hendon Prep

Drama, Art and Music thrive at Hendon Prep and are an important part of school life, both in the curriculum and at after-school clubs. Our innovative teachers are constantly looking for new initiatives to help our pupils develop their creativity, encouraging them to find and follow their passions.

Many children take individual instrument lessons, join the choir or have LAMDA lessons. All pupils from Reception to Year 6 take part in at least one assembly per year, which they perform in front of other pupils and their parents. Pupils are given the opportunity to develop their skills and perform in front of an audience in a supportive environment.

ART

Pupils engage in authentic art experiences

Creativity thrives here at Hendon Prep where children from Reception to Year 6 have weekly art and design lessons with our specialist teacher in our dedicated, well-resourced, art studio.

Children are encouraged to explore a range of mediums during their lessons and examine different artists and their work in an historical and global context.

We constantly change the projects children work on to ensure that they are fresh and relevant to the world around us.

Our Art and Design lessons empower our children to express themselves, whilst helping them to develop crucial critical thinking skills.

MUSIC

Music plays a huge part in school life

Pupils from Preschool to Year 6 have music lessons with our Head of Music every week. Music lessons help our children to develop their confidence and self-esteem, foster team working skills and creativity, and they also provide our children with a huge amount of enjoyment.

Alongside timetabled music lessons there are many co-curricular opportunities to take part in music, including our choir, handbells club, string group, guitar ensemble, individual instrumental lessons and opportunities to perform at our wonderful tea-time concerts, carol concerts and end of year performances.

DRAMA

Developing confidence from day one

Designed to promote student confidence, creativity and imagination, Drama enables our children to develop a wide variety of essential life skills, including co-operation, collaboration, and communication.

Drama is added to the timetable as a discrete subject from Year 3 and many pupils from 3 years old also opt to take additional LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) lessons. LAMDA is the UK’s largest Speech and Drama board and a nationally recognised qualification in communication and performance.
