Year 1
Year 1 provides a smooth transition from the Early Years into more structured learning. Children establish strong foundations across the curriculum whilst developing confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Literacy lessons are supported by dedicated phonics, spelling and handwriting sessions, helping pupils become fluent readers, capable writers and effective communicators. Fine motor skills continue to be developed through focused handwriting activities. Learning becomes increasingly subject-based and is enriched through cross-curricular opportunities that help children make meaningful connections between different areas of learning. Regular assessment ensures that every child is both supported and appropriately challenged.
Year 2
Year 2 is a year of growing confidence, responsibility and independence as pupils prepare for their move into Prep School.
Children continue to develop their creative writing skills, broadening their vocabulary and deepening their understanding of grammar and sentence structure. In Mathematics, they apply their knowledge to solve practical problems, building resilience, reasoning skills and confidence. We encourage pupils to take pride in their work, embrace challenge and strive for excellence, ensuring they are well prepared for the opportunities ahead in Year 3.
Year 3
The start of Prep School marks an important milestone in a child's educational journey. Pupils benefit from specialist teaching and a broader curriculum that encourages deeper thinking and greater independence.
As expectations increase, children develop organisational skills, confidence and responsibility for their learning. A wide range of learning experiences encourages pupils to ask questions, solve problems and think creatively whilst developing the skills needed for continued success.
Year 4
In Year 4, pupils continue to build upon secure academic foundations whilst becoming increasingly reflective and independent learners.
Children are encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning, developing resilience, responsibility and self-confidence. Achievement is celebrated, effort is recognised and every pupil is supported to fulfil their potential across all aspects of school life.
Year 5
Year 5 brings increased academic challenge and prepares pupils for the opportunities and expectations of senior school. Alongside a broad curriculum and enriching learning experiences, pupils begin specialist 11+ preparation lessons.
These sessions develop reasoning, comprehension, mathematical problem-solving and examination techniques, helping pupils build both confidence and strong study habits. Leadership opportunities become increasingly important, encouraging pupils to develop responsibility, initiative and the confidence to act as positive role models within the school community.
Year 6
As the oldest pupils in the school, Year 6 pupils lead by example. Building upon the foundations established in Year 5, specialist 11+ preparation continues through targeted teaching, mock assessments, interview preparation and personalised support.
This ensures pupils approach senior school entrance assessments with confidence and self-belief. Through leadership responsibilities, advanced study skills and expert guidance, pupils develop the maturity, resilience and independence required for a successful transition to their chosen senior school.

Our Prep curriculum is ambitious, broad and designed to prepare pupils for success both academically and personally.

Preparation for senior school begins well before the examination process.

Specialist 11+ lessons from Year 5, together with personalised guidance in Year 6, ensure pupils are thoroughly prepared for entrance assessments, interviews and scholarship opportunities.
