Prep School Admissions
Hendon Prep is an Independent School for boys and girls from 2 to 13.
The main entry points into the school are at 2 years old through the Nursery or at 4 years old into our Reception class. The admissions process for entry into the Hendon Prep Nursery or Reception class is as follows:
Visit us and register your child
We cannot offer your child a place at Hendon Prep until you have visited the school and registered with us. There are two ways in which you can do this:
- Either, attend one of our regular Open Mornings and then complete and return a Registration Form, along with a non-refundable £80 Registration Fee.
- Or, register your child with us first by completing our Registration Form and returning it to us with an £80 non-refundable registration fee and then booking a private tour of the school and a meeting with the Headmaster
The offer of a place
- Nursery intake: Following Registration and a meeting with the Headmaster and / or Nursery Manager, subject to a place being available, and our being able to meet your child’s educational and pastoral needs, we will send you an offer of a place by post, which you will usually have two weeks to reflect upon and accept.
- Reception Intake: Following Registration and an initial visit, your child will be invited into school in the January of their year of entry and spend some time with the Reception Class Teacher who informally assess them undertaking some age appropriate activities whilst parents meet with the Headmaster. Following this meeting, and where appropriate, the offer of a place will be made which you will usually have two weeks to reflect upon and accept.
If you wish to take up the offer of a place you will need to return the completed Acceptance Form and relevant deposits; we will then forward confirmation of your child’s place in the school.
From time to time we do have places become available in Years 1 – 8. Should you wish your child to be considered for one of these places we would ask that you visit the school and register your child with us through one of the options listed above.
Your child will then be invited to attend a ‘taster session’, giving them a chance to meet their future classmates and also take an informal assessment in Maths and English. We are a non-selective school and the offer of a place will not be subject to your child ‘passing’ the assessment, these are used purely for us to gain an understanding of the level they are currently working at and for us, as a school, to ensure that we can meet a child’s educational needs.
After the taster session both you and your child will meet with the Headmaster and subject to this meeting an offer will be made.
Please note that in ALL cases assessments, taster days and subsequent offers are booked and made in order of application.
